The young leaving the parents
What messages is Disney teaching to children in regard to respecting parents? In the films The Little Mermaid II, Lady and the Tramp II, Lion King II, and 101 Dalmations II, the young Disney characters decide to run away from home, ignoring their parents. Ariel's (the Little Mermaid) has a daughter who wishes to become a mermaid and decides to leave her house without knowing she will encounter a witch. Lady (from Lady and the the Tramp) has a son, Scamp, who wants to be wild and free and leaves home without realizing the dangers of the streets. Simba (The Lion king) warns her daughter to stay in the prideland since it's dangerous to be alone, but she refuses to listen. Pongo (101 Dalmatians) has a son who left home in search for a movie star without realizing the consequences. Is it safe to show these Disney films?

I have not watched these movies, and I do not know what the concluding part of the films are.Do the movies teach some lesson to the young as regard the importance and worth of staying with parents? if they do, then there is no harm in showing these Disney films. And in case they intend to encourage the youngster to leave the parents, then it is not worth watching. However, we can not stop the young blood not to watch these films, but we should criticize and highlights their negative impact upon family life so as to create awareness like you highlighted this issue.
ReplyDeleteEvery chick will need to leave the nest at some point. Leaving home to seek one's fortune is perhaps a metaphor for forging a personal identity and independence. Perhaps these are "Western" values, or perhaps distinctly U.S. values.
ReplyDeleteI think children learn better from their mistakes. Parents on the other hand need to allow them to experience instead of being over protective. It is normal; children sometimes intend to go against their parents’ wishes, because they want to take risk in life and want to have the freedom to explore life. People in American are so independent is because they have the optional to leave home once they are ready to face reality alone. The best parents can do is be there for their children and respect their choices.
ReplyDeleteI thought the lesson behind all these movies was to teach children that "ignoring their parents" leads to serious consequences. I am not a big fun of Disney movies, but i most say my favorite one is "the lion king." when i watch it with my nepwhews, i make sure to tell them about the consequuences when one doesn't listen to their parents...
